ACT I: The Players
ACT I. Scene 1. "Rap Star" featuring Player A
Setting: Church service

*Notes: Player A thinks he is doing the right thing, "correcting" his
fellow churchers. But, his attitude isn't right (e.g. "my friend", being
sarcastic/ condescending.) Thus, as the song progresses, his singing
becomes more forceful and quicker to speak (fewer chorus repetitions
between verses, eventually being sung simultaneously with verses).

Cast segues into
"Amazing Grace" -- "I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see."

Preacher (upstage left): Brothers and sisters, we are so glad you have
joined us this morning to worship the LORD together. We will be continuing
our teachings on sin. Our topic today: Rap.

Choir: (audible gasps and murmuring in agreement, nodding of heads)

Player A looks at choir, looks at audience, looks at choir, "Rap Star"

"Rap Star" (rap song)
Verse 1: You all say "gasp", rap is a sin!
Well "my friend", I don't know where you been.
But I've learned it depends on the choices we make
Whether we give or just desecrate.
Chorus: (puts on devil horns; semi-circle, leaning in toward Player A)
Rap star, rap star. You are a rap star. (x4)
Verse 2. It's like skateboards or radio, snowboards or video;
Do it to communicate, or to self-elevate.
Jesus came to show us so many years ago we are nothing...
Nada, zilch, zero. Don't call ourselves a hero.
Chorus. (x2)
Verse 3. Give the glory to God our Father
Not to any one or any other.
Trust in Him with all your heart;
That will be a good good start....
Amen amen amen amen.
Chorus. (x2, then continue with chorus while Verse 2 and 3 are repeated)
Verse 2. Skateboards...
Verse 3. Give the glory...
Coda. (put on devil horns, gains more "confidence" in signing) Rap star, rap star, I am a rap star...(repeat
as exiting upstage right, then before going off stage)
YEAH! (holds up hands in victory sign, nodding head proudly.)

A exits upstage right; Chorus moves downstage left and pick up
ACCEPT DIVERSITY NOw signs.

*****

ACT 1. Scene 2. "NOW" featuring Player B
Setting: Protest rally

*Notes: Player B's attitude, like Player A's attitude is not right;
Jesus teaches that it is right to love, yet Player B uses the word
"hate" right away.

Rioting crowd (note:  this "rioting crowd" is a crowd of college kids who have "jumped on the bandwagon" and really don't care about what signs they are carrying... thus, the "ditzy" kind of chanting from the crowd) downstage left, toting ACCEPT DIVERSITY NOW signs;
B enters upstage right watching crowd.

"NOW" (blues song, since Player B is saddened by the insincerity of these sign-toters)
Chorus: Accept Diversity, accept diversity, accept diversity. NOW! (x4)
Verse 1: (B turns to audience)
ACCEPT DIVERSITY NOW
I hate those signs.
I hate the people
Who spout those lines
That's what they do
Just flit about
Open their mouths like a watering spout.
But they don't do it, not one bit
ACCEPT DIVERSITY NOW, no not them,
Because if they accepted it,
They would not
Be trying to change
What others thought.
Chorus. (x2) (B looks thoughtfully at the crowd)
Verse 2: (B turns back to audience)
Instead they would be walking
and talking with "them"
Laughing and sharing and joking, and then
If there was a difference
they would listen and talk
Maybe go out
and take a walk.
Chorus. (x1) (B looks impatiently at the crowd)
Verse 3. (B turns back to audience, shaking head ruefully)
ACCEPT DIVERSITY NOW
I hate those signs.
I hope those folks
Will take some time
To think about their sign
What it means
Then go home, just come
clean. (toilet flushing)

B exits downstage left; Half of chorus dons puppy ears; other half of
choir dons toddler bibs. Chorus takes places in pairs of puppies and
toddlers across stage.

spend any time with them. Only when they are asleep does she notice her
"accomplishments"

Player C enters downstage left, happily humming "Noah", and dancing with her
clipboard.Puppies and toddlers come to attention (in puppy and toddler fashion)
when Momma (C) arrives and begin to try to get her affection. C absent-mindedly
pats toddlers (T) and puppies (P), then sits down to work, writing on her

P to audience (chorus lies down): Lying down
T to audience (chorus "sleeps"): Asleep

C gets up and stretches, looks at the sleeping puppies and toddlers. Picks up
clipboard and pencil. Nods her head "everything is as it should be", smiles and makes a checkmark on her "list"
after singing each item.

"Noah".

Act III: The Big Question
ACT III. Scene 1: "Judgment" performed by the Cast
Staging: C center stage; B to left; A to right; Chorus in groups/ semi-circles
around each Player

*Notes: "Judgment" Verse 1 (Player C); Verse 2 (Players B and A alternate lines)

"Judgment"
Chorus. Casting judgment, judgment, judgment
On the ones so close to me
Casting judgment judgment judgment
With God's grace I can be free.

Verse 1. Oh I sit, I cry, and I ask why
I'm so blessed to have my guy
He gives me love uncondition'ly
I hold tight; he sets me free.

I look at him, at what he does
I say: "Tsk tsk, do THIS because..."
He listens to me, to what I say
Corrects me lovingly every day.

I know he'd give his life for me
He would die so I could be
But then I'd cry, I'd wail, call "WHY?!"
I'd beat my chest up at the sky.

I pray that it won't come to that;
He looks to see where things are at
He asks for wisdom every day
From God, the Truth, the Life, the Way.

(with choral overlay)
I need to stop that judgment judgment judgment
On the ones so close to me.
I need to stop that judgment judgment judgment
With God's grace I can be free.

Verse 2. I ask for help, call out to Heav'n
Where God, his angels, engines revvin'
Fly to me, on all sides,
Fight the battle, calm the tide.

After that I can see clearly
How satan has deceived me:
The pride that stems from me inside
It's brought on out, into the light.

It's my choice now; let it go
Or hang on tight, but I know
Hang on "tight" that would be
Unwise, selfish, foolhardy.

I grab a breath and reach up high
To my Father in the sky
He reaches down, embraces me,
Says: "Let it go, with grace from Me."

(with choral overlay, repeat x3 and fade)
(I need to) stop that judgment judgment judgment
on the ones so close to me
(I need to) stop that judgment judgment judgment
With God's grace I can be free.

Coda.
C: I know now it's how he works
B: Gets in my head, makes me berserk
A: It's up to me to set us free
C, B, A: Give it up completely.
All: Amen
